Special Projects · UI/UX for Future Hardware

Tesla (2020—2024)

Before founding Special Projects, I served as lead vehicle interface designer at Tesla, collaborating directly with Franz von Holzhausen (Head of Design) and David Lau (Head of Software) to define the UI experience across Tesla's entire vehicle lineup and mobile ecosystem.

Our lean team shipped interface updates that established design fundamentals now adopted throughout the EV industry. At Tesla, I learned three critical principles that became foundational to my approach: first, how to shape advanced technologies through the lens of efficiency and performance; second, the importance of carefully scoping design and engineering work to maintain rapid iteration cycles for continuous learning; and third, building highly skilled, focused teams that prioritize impactful execution over process overhead.

Working at the intersection of interface design and cutting-edge hardware at unprecedented scale taught me how disciplined design methodology can reshape entire product categories. This experience became the cornerstone of Special Projects' philosophy—taking the proven approaches that revolutionized automotive interfaces and applying them to emerging hardware categories where thoughtful design execution can create similar transformative market impact.
